Psychoeducational Assessments
Who is this for?
- School-aged children, teens and post-secondary students who struggle with learning, focus, fluctuating academic performance, behaviour, or socio-emotional well-being
If there are concerns about your child or teen’s learning, focus, academic performance, behaviour, or socio-emotional well-being, a psychoeducational assessment can provide valuable insights into their strengths, needs and provide a path forward.
This assessment evaluates areas such as thinking, memory, attention, executive functioning, visual-motor skills, and academic achievement in reading, writing, and math. It also provides screening of social and emotional functioning, with more in-depth evaluation available if necessary.
Note, ADHD assessments of youth are only offered as part of a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment.
Benefits of a Psychoeducational Assessment
A clear understanding of strengths and challenges in various areas of functioning
A diagnosis, if applicable, can help clarify the underlying reasons for academic, social, emotional, and behavioural struggles
Possible access to tailored recommendations, including interventions and accommodations for elementary and secondary education, college, university, and standardized tests (e.g., LSAT, MCAT, GRE)
Referrals for services such as psychotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology, as required
Our Psychoeducational Assessment Process:
Clinical intake interview with the primary caregivers or post-secondary student
Review of relevant documents such as medical information, report cards and previous assessment reports, as provided by you
Questionnaires by the primary caregiver, the child/teen’s teacher(s), with consent, and the child/teen, if age-appropriate
Two in-person testing interview sessions, each lasting three hours. Alternatively, three sessions of two hours each can be arranged according to the child/teen’s age and presenting concerns
Verbal feedback session with the primary caregivers or post-secondary student
Report with norm-referenced scores and recommendations for interventions and accommodations
